ROCKLAND – The Farnsworth Art Museum will present the first Maine in America Celebration, an arts festival throughout Rockport and Rockland celebrating Maine’s role in American art, from June 18 to June 28.

The festival focusing on theater, music, dance and the visual arts, will include the presentation of the fourth Maine in America award to Maine resident and artist Robert Indiana.

On Saturday, June 27, Farnsworth Interim Director Michael K. Komanecky will give a lecture on Indiana at 1 p.m. in the museum auditorium. Seating is limited to 80; the fee is $15 for members, $20 for nonmembers. From 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., the Wine Seller on Tillson Avenue will host a free wine tasting.

On Wednesday and Thursday, June 24 and 25, Everyman Repertory Theatre will present Edward Albee’s 2008 play “Occupant,” about internationally renowned sculptor Louise Nevelson. The play will take place at 7 p.m. at the Theatre at Lincoln Street Center, where Nevelson, who grew up in Rockland, went to school. Tickets are $10.

On Friday, June 26, Arts in Rockland will take center stage as downtown galleries host a series of free gallery talks and a Friday Art Walk, from 5 to 8 p.m.
