I admit, I was tempted start off with some sarcastic remark, but I realize that the battle is not over, and I respect the fact that the issue of gay marriage is very sensitive to many.
Although many others feel that gay marriage is wrong — for a number of reasons, some of them religious, some political, some family oriented — I respect their right to feel that way, and react to it within the guidelines of the law.
I never want any government to have the right to order a house of worship to perform a gay marriage. I do believe that all civil marriages, whether performed by a notary public or judge or another legal person, should be declared legal.
Kudos and gratitude to the Maine Legislature and Gov. John Baldacci.
