National Public Gardens Day

The McLaughlin Garden in South Paris, is delighted to participate in the first National Public Gardens Day that will take place on Friday, May 8. Created by the American Public Gardens Association, this nation wide event strives to raise awareness of America’s public gardens and their important role in promoting environmental stewardship and awareness, plant and water conservation, and education in communities nationwide. McLaughlin Garden’s participation in this event will begin with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m., celebrating the construction of the newly restored front entrance to the historic Caption Tribou House.
Refreshments will be served, the Garden will be open, and plants available for sale all day.
Gardens with a View
Five gardens in Otisfield with views of Mt. Washington will be open to the public on Saturday, June 23, as a benefit for the McLaughlin Garden. The gardens, all located on a mile of Bow Street, may be accessed by foot or by car. While each garden has perennials in common, following a pass along tradition among the neighbors, each also has its own unique plants and is landscaped in an independent style chosen by its owner. The gardens are large and small, in both sun and shade, and include ornamentals as well as edibles. The June date ensures plenty of blooms from peonies, clematis, dianthus and iris, as well as fresh hosta foliage. The self guided tour will take place from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., rain or shine. Lunch, catered by McLaughlin’s Garden Café, will be available at one home along the route for an additional charge. Advance sale tickets may be reserved at the McLaughlin Garden for $10 (members) and $12 (non members). Tickets on the day of the tour will be available at the corner of Bow Street and the Gore Road for $15.
