Wednesday, April 22, was an exceptionally sunny day. As it was school vacation, I was able to have lunch with my two favorite guys, but where to go?  My sons wanted pizza and I wanted to try some place different, so we hopped in the car, rolled the windows down and headed to Rustic Pizza in West Poland.

The white, country store is located on the left side of Megquier Hill Road, just off Route 11.

Appetizers, sides, salads, calzones, stone deck pizza and specialty
pizza, wraps, subs, Italians and more fill the store’s menu. Customers can choose from several grinder options like a classic meatball (starting at $4.15), crispy b.l.t. ($4.15), rich boy ($4.45) or a Rustic grinder ($5.25 for a small). There are five different family meal deals priced from $13.95 to $28.95, and mammoth meals like baked lasagna ($6.85), buffalo wing dinner ($6.75), cheeseburger dinner ($5.75) or chicken finger dinner ($6.75) to choose from.

To satisfy an instant craving for a steak and cheese sub, I ordered the
number 3 lunch special, which is a small sub with fries. For the boys,
straight up carbs and gooey, cheesy goodness. A small pepperoni and
pineapple pizza and an order of cheesy pazzo bread. The gentleman at the counter was personable and quickly went to work making our lunch.

The three of us decided to eat in and found seats after I paid. Being boys, the table and bar were of particular interest to them, as they were made from actual wood — bark and all. The discussion about this fact was enough to pass the 15 minutes it took for our food to cook.

The cheesy pazzo bread was really good; cheesy, garlicky with just enough crunch to the dough. The pizza sauce had a slight sweetness to it, generous toppings and the same crispy crust as the pazzo bread. My steak sub was more than enough food. Made with seasoned shaved beef, mushrooms and American cheese, it certainly hit the spot. The fries were great, their taste reminding me of summer at the pier in Old Orchard Beach.

We finished as much as we could, taking the remainder of lunch home in a take-out box, and noting that this would be a great lunch stop on the way to Naples and Bridgton over the next few months.

Parking is located at the back of the building, easily accessible from the road, and the entrance is just a short walk away. Lunch specials are offered from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. daily, and Visa, Mastercard, Discover and
American Express are accepted.
