I am writing to voice my surprise at how lax payment from the state has been to hospitals. They don’t ask for payment before treating anyone, unlike the dental profession. Everyone is treated regardless of payment source.
If a business was run like this, it would exist no more. The health care industry should not be taken advantage of. What business would wait years to get paid?
Hospitals are asked to wait and, based on faith, they will get paid. People still need to be paid who work there and equipment still needs to be updated or repaired.
The situation is outrageous. What has happened? Why is payment even late?
There are proposals to make payment cuts to hospitals that employ physicians. In a world that tries to be on the cutting edge of health care advancements, that would be taking a step back in time.
State officials should take the time to consider the ramifications of these actions, and decide to make Maine the great state that I have always thought it to be.
