TOPSHAM, Maine (AP) — Maine will be getting $19.5 million in federal Recovery Act funds for upgrades to drinking water systems across the state.

Gov. John Baldacci, U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency officials made the announcement Friday at the Brunswick and Topsham Water District.

Baldacci said when combined with other funding sources, the funds will allow the state to complete more than $40 million worth of projects in 61 communities, resulting in the creation of 720 to 960 jobs.
