AUGUSTA — The public hearing for the proposal to allow gay marriage in Maine is expected to be changed from Friday April 24 at Cony High School to Wednesday April 22 at the Augusta Civic Center to accommodate higher-than-expected turnout for the hearing, according to the House Speakers Office.
The final decision is pending confirmation that enough members of the Legislature’s Judiciary Committee can be present for the new date. The hearing would start at 9:00 a.m. and end at 8 p.m. The doors for the public open at 8 a.m.
The Capitol Police Department is working with local and state police to ensure order during the hearing.
