Your newlywed days are supposed to be the best of a marriage: eyes for no one but each other, too much time spent in the bedroom, you get our drift. But the truth is some men (dogs!) get a wandering eye (or hand) shortly after they take their vows. Women’s Health has tips to “cheat-proof” your marriage, including a list of items that you should consider before you get married. Apparently, the more items you can confirm from the list below, the more chances your better half is the faithful chap you dreamed of marrying.
-He’s open about checking out other women. You don’t need to worry if your man is opening up about finding other women attractive – it’s when he keeps quiet, perhaps thinking of acting on those urges that you should be on alert.
– You’re the better half – superficially. Let’s face it, guys like a pretty girl. And if you’re prettier than he is, the more likely he is to be secure and happy in your relationship.
– He’s emotionally distant. The more he pulls away emotionally, the more likely he is to cheat on you, according to a 2008 study from the University of Montreal. So instead of making fun of him while he cries at sappy movies, pass the tissues.
– You fight, argue, disagree. Don’t kid yourself into thinking your relationship is picture-perfect; if there are no disagreements that probably means one person is suppressing their anger, which we all know just builds inside.
– The fear of God is in him. Apparently those who attend religious services of their choosing are less likely to have affairs, according to a study published last year in the Journal of Marriage and Family.
– He’s no AIG executive. Men who make more, cheat more. According to an msnbc.com survey, men who make more than $300,000 admitted to being unfaithful more than those who earned less than $30,000.

Self magazine’s happiness expert Dr. Catherine Birndorf answers a question from a reader about being in her first serious relationship and being anxious about marriage. -First, there’s no pressure to marry the guy, so find out the source of your concern. If it doesn’t work out with this guy, he’s not the only fish in the sea!
-Go slowly, especially if it’s your first foray into the cloudy and confusion-inducing world of love.
-If you think you should date more men before settling down, you need to sit down and think. Is it worth losing him to take a chance at other experiences? How would you feel if he walked out of your life tomorrow?
