FARMINGTON – The Farmington Public Library and Devaney Doak & Garrett Booksellers will hold an evening of poetry Thursday, Jan. 29, beginning at 7 p.m. Featured will be a dual book launch with readings and book signings by poets Jeffrey Thomson, University of Maine at Farmington professor, and Carey Salerno, acting director of Alice James Books.
The two new books are “Birdwatching in Wartime” by Thomson, and “Shelter” by Salerno.
Thomson has written four books of poems, including “Birdwatching in Wartime” and “Renovation.” He has won fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Pennsylvania Arts Commission and most recently was named the 2008 Individual Arts Fellow in the Literary Arts by the Maine Arts Commission. He is an associate professor of creative writing at the university.
Salerno’s poems have appeared in Rattle, The Dirty Napkin and Natural Bridge.
