BOOTHBAY – The Boothbay Railway Village will conduct a two-day course on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 16 and 17, on the operation and theory of the coal-fired steam locomotive. Included will be the opportunity to participate in “hands-on” training with the museum’s vintage locomotives under the supervision of qualified museum staff.

The course will cost $125, or $100 for museum members, which includes the cost of the textbook, Practical Locomotive Operating.

FREEPORT – An independent school fair will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at the Merriconeag Waldorf School, Community Hall, 57 Desert Road. Parents can explore high school options and visit with admission representatives from 30 private day and boarding schools from New England.
