Diocesan meeting

BREWER – The quarterly meeting of the Maine Diocesan Council of Catholic Women will take place on Saturday, Oct. 16, at St. Joseph’s Church with registration at 8:30 a.m. The cost of lunch is $7 and people can forward checks to Elaine Michaud. Tax-cap forum

PORTLAND – The University of Southern Maine Muskie School will present a public education forum, “Maine’s Tax Cap Measure: Understanding the Options,” at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 6, in the Moot Courtroom of the Law School Building. The forum is free and open to the public.

Speakers will include USM Professor Charles Colgan, a former Maine state economist, Bill Becker, executive director of the Maine Heritage Policy Center, and Christopher St. John, executive director of the Maine Center for Economic Policy. They will present their perspectives on the implications and possible consequences of Maine’s tax cap measure if successful on Nov. 2.

Teachers seminar

ROCKLAND – The Farnsworth Art Museum will present an educator seminar from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8. The seminar will focus on the museum’s temporary exhibition “Un/Coverings: Contemporary Maine Fiber Art,” on display in the Morehouse Wing through Feb. 20. Through the exhibition, teachers will learn how to use the museum and its resources to aid in attaining learning standards set by the state. Live demonstrations, hands-on projects, and interaction with the artwork will enhance knowledge and understanding of the long history associated with fiber arts traditions.
