The State Board of Education has approved a new site plan for Farwell Elementary School in Lewiston.

The original plan called for the 50-year-old school to be torn down and replaced with a new facility on the same 4.6-acre site. Now, because Lewiston has an option to buy a quarter of an acre of abutting property, the site has expanded to more than 4.8 acres.

The proposed school would be more than 53,000 square feet and would serve 425 students from kindergarten to grade six. The entire project could cost $11.3 million.

Lewiston will hold a public meeting on the new plan at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, at Farwell Elementary School.
