As big-screen televisions become more affordable, more people than ever are enjoying their favorite programs and movies on larger TVs. Unfortunately that big screen is usually attached to a big box, making it hard to hide when not in use. Now there’s a do-it-yourself solution for woodworkers who don’t want to look at a big blank screen.

Designed for a standard 32-inch TV (and some 36-inch TVs), this handsome television cabinet features pocket doors for unobstructed viewing from any angle. Generous accessory shelves will accommodate a cable or satellite decoder, a VCR or DVD player, a home theater system, a video game system and more.

Made from veneer plywood and standard dimensional lumber (ours is made of maple, but oak, pine or birch work equally well), the project is easy enough for woodworkers of any skill level. Simply cut out the pieces (a full-size pattern is included for the angled cut on the legs) and assemble using glue and finish nails. To complete the project, cut a hole in the back sized for your particular television (if necessary), install the doors and apply finish of choice.

Overall, the television cabinet measures about 60 inches tall by 42 inches wide by 22 inches deep. The interior cabinet will accommodate a TV that measures 33 inches wide by 33 inches tall.
