Based on a classic outdoor design, this twin-seater project is a great way for do-it-yourselfers to share a sunny afternoon by the pool or a warm evening on the patio. It features wide, comfortable seats flanking a table perfect for drinks, snacks or playing checkers or cards.

Although the project is designed to last for many summers, construction will take only a weekend or two. The project calls for mostly straight cuts of standard 1-by-3, 2-by-4 and 2-by-3 lumber (Douglas fir, mahogany, oak, redwood or teak), and its curved cuts are traced from full-size patterns.

To build, simply trace the parts onto wood and cut out. Next, sand and assemble the pieces with screws. Finally, add your finish of choice – clear, stain or paint – and relax. Although it’s pictured without them, the project is designed to accept most standard outdoor furniture cushions.

The twin-seater measures about 60 inches long by 25 inches deep by 35 inches tall.

The Twin-Seater plan, No. 917, is $9.95 and includes step-by-step instructions with photos, full-size traceable patterns, construction diagrams and a complete shopping list and cutting schedule.

A package of porch furniture projects, No. C154, is $24.95 and includes plans for two porch rockers and a swing that nicely complement the twin-seater. A catalog picturing hundreds of do-it-yourself projects is $2.00. Prices include postage and handling. Please allow about four weeks for delivery (for first-class postage, add $1 per item up to $3 maximum).
