There’s nothing like the simple pleasure of relaxing on the porch or patio after a long summer day. The balmy air, a cool drink and the gentle motion of a rocking chair is about as good as it gets. This handsome and comfortable double porch rocker is a great way for do-it-yourselfers to share those warm summer evenings with someone special.

Reminiscent of classic Mission-style furniture, the chair is a good warm-weather project for woodworkers of any skill level. Made from standard cedar lumber (other woods may be substituted), the project calls for mostly straight cuts and features full-size patterns for the curves. It requires no special tools.

To build, simply trace the patterns onto wood and cut out the pieces. Next, sand everything and assemble using glue and screws. To finish, the builder may oil, seal, paint or stain the project as preferred.

The double porch rocker measures about 44 inches long by 36 inches tall by 29 inches deep (at the rockers).
