WOODSTOCK – Selectmen on Tuesday gave the Recreation Committee the go-ahead to begin developing the Woodstock Recreational Park on Lakeshore Drive.

Committee Chairman John Fitzmorris said the committee had completed a study of prices for playground equipment and only needed the board’s approval before ordering it. Included are a Little Corner Play Station, step pods, three benches, a basketball hoop and backboard, bike rack, a four-swing set with infant seat, a fun hoop, and five wooden picnic tables with roofs. Five grills will be ordered for the picnic tables.

The cost of the project is set at $13,097.16, which is all but $1,902.84 of a private donation given to the town last year.

Along with the playground equipment purchased with the donation there will be a chain-link fence, tar for the basketball court, mulch, cement, stone dust for the walkways and miscellaneous costs for shipping and other needs. That money will come directly from the recreation budget.

Fitzmorris said the first phase will be done as soon as site work is finished by volunteers and the equipment arrives.

“We’ll do everything in our power to get the equipment in,” he said. “Hopefully everything will be up and running before the kids go back to school.”

The park is next to the town beach on Lakeshore Drive at the end of Lake Christopher.

The board also authorized Town Manager Vern Maxfield to order a 45-by-75-foot prefabricated metal building as an addition to the fire station. The cost is estimated at about $45,000. The ground work will be done by Fire Department and highway personnel.

Maxfield said a quote on the cement work should be in soon, and the project is planned for this summer.
