RUMFORD – The Blazing Star Lodge will hold a stated meeting Wednesday, May 7, at the lodge in Rumford Corner. A roast pork supper will be held at 6:30 p.m. and the lodge will open at 7:30 p.m. The master Mason degree is to be conferred on one candidate. Members are being urged to attend. Kindergarten info

RUMFORD – A parent information night will be held for parents of next year’s kindergarten class from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, at Virginia Elementary School. Bring your child who will be entering school for the 2003-04 school year.

Hypnosis help

MEXICO – A certified clinical hypnotherapist, Scott Jacobson, M.Ed., will conduct a workshop called “Weight Loss through Hypnosis” from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, at Region 9 Learning Center. Preregistration is required by Thursday, May 8. The cost is $50 and it’s nonrefundable.

Jacobson will use hypnosis with the group to create a state of mind in which specific weight loss suggestions are acted upon much more powerfully than is possible under normal conditions, according to a spokesman. Participants should take a blanket and pillow to the workshop.

Quit smoking

RUMFORD – FreshStart, a support and preparation program designed by the American Cancer Society to help smokers quit, will be offered in May.

The program has four one-hour sessions. They will be led by Sarah Coolidge.

It addresses reasons for smoking, methods and activities to help smokers quit, strategies to help smokers quit and strategies to help them remain smoke-free.

Class is being offered on May 13, 15, 20 and 27 from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Rumford Community Hospital, 420 Franklin St. The program is free. People can call 364-7408 to register for more information.
