CAPE ELIZABETH – Over 500 Special Olympics athletes will be competing today in the Cumberland County Special Olympics Area Games at Cape Elizabeth High School.
Today’s competition will include most track and field events.
The program will begin at 9:20 a.m. with opening ceremonies and a parade. Cape Elizabeth High School and Cape Community Services will be recognized during the ceremonies. Competition will start at 9:45.
Special Olympics Maine is a year-round athletic training and competition program for persons with mental retardation of all ages. There are nearly 3,000 Special Olympics athletes.
Area competitions are taking place throughout Maine in April and May as preliminary events for the State Games to be held June 6-8 at the University of Maine Orono.

UMF hosting camp
FARMINGTON – The University of Maine Farmington All Sports Camp is scheduled for July 6-11 on the UMF campus.
Eligible are boys and girls ages 8-15.
The program will include both a day and overnight camp that will introduce campers to a wide range of athletic activitites and help develop a variety of skills.
Entry fee is $200 for day campers and $350 for those who stay overnight.
