Five people are seeking selectmen positions, but no one is seeking SAD 43 positions.
MEXICO – Townspeople are showing interest in serving on the Board of Selectmen, but no one wants to run for the SAD 43 Board of Directors.
Town Clerk Penny Duguay said nomination papers returned Friday for the June 10 primary elections showed five people running for two open seats on the selectmen’s board but none for the two open seats on the SAD 43 board.
Dr. Monique Aniel, Tim Giasson and William Kent Mann are running for the one year remaining on former Selectman Robert Lyons’ three-year term.
Aniel is making a first-time run for a selectman’s position. She is a former school board member and Board of Appeals member and currently serves on the Mexico Budget Committee. She lives on Backkingdom Road and is a retired physician.
Giasson is making another run for a seat on the board. He currently sits on the Board of Appeals and works at the Wal-Mart Superstore in Mexico. He lives on Main Street.
Mann is a paving contractor who lives on Granite Street. He is making a first-time run for a selectman’s position.
Running for a three-year term on the board is incumbent Selectman Louise Waterhouse and former Selectman Ernie Robichaud.
Waterhouse, a resident of Katie Lane, is seeking a fourth three-year term. She is retired from the state’s Department of Human Services.
Robichaud served as a selectman in the 1980s. The Kimball Avenue resident is a local landlord who serves on the town’s Planning Board, Water District board, and River Valley Growth Council board.
Neither Courtney nor Faye Prentiss, both incumbent Board of Directors for SAD 43, has decided to seek a second three-year term. No one else has filed nomination papers for the positions, either.
Duguay said two spaces will be left blank on the ballot. If write-ins accept the positions then Mexico will have a full slate of four representatives on the board. If not, selectmen can make two temporary appointments to serve until the November general elections when the positions will again become available.
