1928 – 2003
LEWISTON – Robert L. Charest Sr., 75, of 71 Dumont Ave., Lewiston, died at his residence Sunday, April 13, following a long illness.
Born in Lewiston, Feb. 5, 1928, the son of Israel and Rosanna (Cloutier) Charest, he had been a resident of this community all of his life.
He was employed in the textile industry, working for Miller Industries for 25 years and retired in 1996.
He was a veteran of World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps and served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations.
He was a member of Holy Cross Church and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 22.
Mr. Charest enjoyed hunting, fishing, coin collecting and most of all attending all sporting events that his children were involved in.
Survivors include his wife, Henrietta Raymond, whom he married Nov. 20, 1954; one daughter, Mrs. James (Lorraine) Champagne of Sabattus; two sons, Robert L. Charest Jr. of Lewiston and Raymond Charest and his wife, Catherine of Shrewsbury, Mass.; three sisters, Alexina Roy, Henrietta Morin and Pauline Pinette, all of Lewiston; two brothers, Roger Charest and his wife, Theresa of Sabattus and Arthur Charest of Auburn.; two grandchildren, Julia and Ryan Charest of Shrewsbury, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.
