1922 – 2003

LEWISTON – William D. Grant Jr., 80, of Rumford, died Thursday, April 10, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. A resident of the area most of his life, he resided at the Muskie Building on Congress St., Rumford.

He was born in Jay, on Nov. 5, 1922, a son of William and Ethel (Trask) Grant Sr., and graduated from Mexico High School Class of 1941. During World War II ,as an Army Pfc, he served overseas in the South Pacific, Guadalcanal and the Phillipines.

A machinist, he worked at Boise Cascade Paper Co in Rumford for over 44 years until retirement in 1984. He was a member of the Boise Cascade Paper Co. 25 & 40 Year Club; member Napoleon Ouellette Post 24, American Legion; member Robert Shand Post 1641, VFW; member Greater Rumford Senior Citizens; member of the Rumford & Mexico AA Group. He enjoyed camping and going for rides with his family.

He was formerly married to Virginia Farnham from 1948 to 1976, and then married in Wilton, on Sept. 2, 1979 to Joyce Turner who survives of Rumford.

Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs Janice Wilson and husband Prentis of Gahanna, Ohio, and Mrs Rebecca Rhodes and husband Robert of Carroll, Ohio; a son, Bruce Grant and wife Debbie of Rumford; six stepsons, David Woods and wife Joanne of Peru, Michael Woods and wife Kathleen of Lompoc, CA., James Woods and wife Edith of Jacksonville, Fla., Timothy Woods and wife Rose Marie of Roxbury, Mark Woods and wife Renee of Hillsboro, N.H., Peter Woods and wife Carey of Minot; five grandchildren; 12 stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and predeceased by five brothers, Harold, Earl, Clayton, Herbert, and Raymond Grant.
