WEST PARIS – A parade starting at 2 p.m. Sunday will be held to show support for troops in Iraq.

The parade, organized by Ring-McKeen American Legion Post 151 member Doreen Wilbur, will begin at Trap Corner and proceed down Main Street to the War Memorial in the center of the village.

“It’s worried me to see people marching against the war and not rallying for the troops,” Wilbur said. “I don’t want to see our troops come home and be spit on like they were after Vietnam. If our troops could see the protests against the war they would not feel very much support. We plan to do as much as we can Sunday to show them we are behind what they are doing in Iraq. So the parade is to support our troops in Iraq, and anyone who wants to bring signs, yellow ribbons or flags to show their support for the troops or for a specific person they know they are certainly welcome to join us.”

Wilbur and other supporters hope there will be a good turnout for the event, and she made it clear it will be held rain or shine.
