Four of the applicants will be interviewed for the superintendent position.

RUMFORD – If the superintendent search process continues to go smoothly, a person may be named to the SAD 43 leadership position by the first board meeting in May.

David McKivergan, chairman of the Superintendent Search Committee and a Rumford representative to the SAD 43 school board, said the original 10 qualified applicants have been honed down to four.

These people, all from Maine, will be interviewed later this week and early next week.

“We’re pleased to have these applicants. They are all worthy of further consideration,” he said.

He declined to give the genders of the four candidates slated for interviews. The 10 qualified candidate applicants included both men and women, and those from within Maine and from away.

Maine School Management Association screened out all applicants who were not or could not be certified as a school superintendent following the March 7 deadline. The resumes of 10 qualified individuals were then given to the Superintendent Search Committee for its review.

Once the initial interviews of the four semi-finalists have been conducted by the Search Committee and its three advisers, Mountain Valley Middle School Principal Charles Lever, elementary teacher Denise Richards and Curriculum Coordinator Gloria Jenkins, the finalist or finalists will go before the full Board of Directors for second interviews.

“With a little bit of luck, we’ll have someone by the first of May,” said McKivergan.

The search for a new superintendent was the result of the resignation of Danny Michaud. He has served as the leader of the district for eight years. His resignation is effective July 1.

Besides McKivergan, Search Committee members are Rumford representatives Tracey Higley, Linda Westleigh and Rosie Bradley, and Byron director, Anne Simmons Edmunds.
