A few people incorrectly guessed that last week’s Mystery Photo was the Music Hall on Lisbon Street in Lewiston. Dan Levesque, of Auburn, who was picked as this week’s winner, initially thought it was the Music Hall, but had his suspicions and went to his extensive home library of local books and publications to check. He found his answer in the Auburn centennial book published for the city’s centennial in 1969. He wrote this in his email entry. “The photo (shows) . . . the old Mechanic’s Savings Bank building at 79 Main St., Auburn. Although the bank was incorporated in 1875, it was originally housed in the Auburn Hall Block (now City Hall) until (the new building was) ready for occupancy in June 1889. The construction cost was a then whopping $50,000.” The building currently houses several businesses. Dan will receive a $20 gift card courtesy of Hannaford.
