Lt. Dan Menard of the Maine Warden Service said Sunday that Troy Marden, 17, of Amesbury, Massachusetts, was driving a snowmobile with another person on a plowed section of Thompson Lake in an area known as “the Heath” Saturday night when he failed to negotiate a corner in the road and struck a snowbank.

Menard said that Marden was ejected from the snowmobile and the driver of the second snowmobile attempted to provide aid before getting help.

Marden was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The Maine Warden Service was assisted at the scene by Mechanic Falls Police Department, the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, and the Poland Fire Department.

Menard said that Marden’s death was the fifth snowmobile fatality of the snowmobile season.
