LEWISTON — The state of public education will be examined at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 26, at Lifetree Cafe. The event will begin with a potluck dinner at 5 p.m. and participants are encouraged to stay for a conversation on education.
The program, titled “Pass or Fail? The State of Education,” will feature filmed interviews with Nikhil Goyal, TED talk speaker and author of “One Size Does Not Fit All: A Student’s Assessment of School,” and Sajan George, founder of Matchbook Learning, a school-turnaround organization.
“Thirteen years of being in the system annihilated my creative potential,” said Goyal, a recent high school graduate. “School stunted my creative prowess. I came to the realization that I was seen not as a human being, but as a test score.”
Goyal advocates sweeping changes in the educational system.
During the session Lifetree participants will have to opportunity to discuss the current state of public education and what changes might improve the system for schools, parents and students.
Admission to the 60-minute event is free. Lifetree Cafe is located at 1919 Lisbon Road.
