It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s … a Super pet?

The Super Bowl evokes emotions from millions of football fans worldwide, and, in many cases, fans share those emotions with their furry and/or feathered friends.

Folks in Maine are no different. Take Jo-Anne Teacutter of Lewiston, for instance. Her dog, Bonnie, is a “huge” fan of the New England Patriots, Teacutter said.

“She always wears her Pats shirt and begs for snacks,” Teacutter said.

She and Bonnie are excited about the game Sunday, in which their beloved Patriots will face the Philadelphia Eagles, hoping to win a third NFL championship in four years, and a sixth overall.

Teacutter said they are going to her son’s girlfiend’s house to watch the game.

“My son also has a dog named Madden, who is a huge fan, of course,” she said.

And then there’s Briana Vallieres and her puppy pal, Leonard. Vallieres said Leonard and his “fur sister” Libby are going to a Super Bowl party specifically for “fur baby Pats fans.”

Feeding the football family

Beyond fans’ pets, the most important accessory for most during the game is food, and whether or not there’s a party in the offing, good food isn’t hard to make, or to find.

Snacks are often as simple as chips and salsa, or a homemade dip — including seven-layer dips of salsa, beans, guacamole and cheese, which are a classic option.

Frozen appetizers and snacks are a quick and easy way to solve the snack issue, too.

But if you’re looking to step up your food game without toiling all day in the kitchen, many area restaurants have started offering to-go packages specifically for big events like the Super Bowl.

Gipper’s Sports Grill in Auburn, for one, has a “deconstructed nacho” kit available to order.

Gridiron Restaurant in Lewiston  has specials on traditional party finger foods, too, while Dad’s Place in Mechanic Falls, and all Sam’s Italian Foods, have pizza specials. Luiggi’s Pizzeria in Lewiston has an assortment of finger rolls and a spaghetti bucket special. Roy’s All Steak Hamburgers got into the mix, offering “big game” subs, and Doe’s in South Paris is inviting fans to partake in its pizza specials.

Jo-Anne Teacutter of Lewiston said her golden retriever Bonnie is a huge Pats fan.

Madden

Briana Vallieres said her dog, Leonard, is ready for Sunday. He and his “fur sister,” Libby, are going to a Puppy Super Bowl party and play date with other “fur baby Pats fans.”
