PHILLIPS — A dump truck traveling too fast downhill on Salem Road on Monday failed to negotiate a curve, went out of control and struck a bridge over the Sandy River, according to a Franklin County Sheriff’s Office release.
The commercial paving truck was driven by Jason Vento, 37, of Livermore Falls, who was not hurt in the accident reported at 3:07 p.m., Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. wrote.
The truck was heading south when it hit the side of the bridge and went the entire length of the bridge before it came to rest on the other side, Nichols wrote.
The rear axle came off the truck and went into the river.
Deputy Andrew Morgan is the lead investigator for the crash. He was assisted by Trooper Bill Plourde of the Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement unit.
Phillips Fire Department assisted with traffic control.
