AUBURN — A local woman was hurt early Friday night after she ran into the side of a minivan on Turner Street.
Police said 49-year-old Asha Sheikhuna, of 416 Turner St., was struck at about 6 p.m. when she attempted to run across the street to meet a friend.
Investigators said Sheikhuna ran into the side of a 2006 Ford van driven by 40-year-old Judy Schneider of Lewiston.
The victim was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston to be evaluated for a leg injury. She was later released.
Police said alcohol was not a factor in the crash. No charges were expected.
Police, fire and rescue crews responded to the crash, blocking off the road and diverting outbound traffic down Rowe Street to Mayfield Road.
The accident caused traffic to back up on both ends of Turner Street as emergency crews treated the victim and police prepared to investigate the crash.
Traffic was also snarled in Lewiston after a series of minor crashes at various locations during the commuter hour. No serious injuries were reported in those wrecks.
