JAY — Police said a local man is accused of loading a shotgun and threatening a neighbor on Crash Road before shooting off a round outside his apartment early Saturday morning.
Tristan Franchetti, 25, of Jay, is charged with felony criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and misdemeanors of threatening display of a weapon and terrorizing, according to a complaint filed with a Farmington court.
A conviction on the felony charge carries a penalty of up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
An Oxford County judge set Franchetti’s bail Monday afternoon at $1,000 cash, a Franklin County corrections officer said. He was initially arrested on a higher-level charge and held on $75,000 cash bail at the Franklin County jail in Farmington.
Jay police officer Stephanie Guillemette was on patrol at about 1:05 a.m. Saturday when she received a complaint of an intoxicated man outside a residence on Crash Road firing a shotgun, according to Guillemette’s report filed with the court.
Guillemette and Jay police officer Wilmor Herrin responded, along with officers from Livermore Falls and Wilton police departments.
Police made contact with Franchetti and found a shotgun shell on the ground outside of his residence. He acknowledged that he fired the shotgun outdoors. A loaded firearm was seized from the doorway of the residence, according to a release by Jay Detective Michael Mejia.
“Tristan was observed by officers to be heavily intoxicated,” Mejia wrote. “Further investigation revealed that he had become angry during an argument and took possession of the firearm inside the home. He chambered a round into the shotgun and began making threats to another individual about firing it just prior to going outside and doing so.”
Another neighbor also heard the shot, according to Guillemette’s report.
After Franchetti was arrested, he was taken to the Franklin County jail. He was calm for most of the ride until the cruiser neared the jail, repeating statements such as, “’You better hope that they lock me up tonight,’” according to the report.
Guillemette told him to stop making threatening statements and he replied, “’Ohhhh, it’s not,’” the report states.
Franchetti is also accused of repeating that same phrase to officers at the jail during the booking process.
He is scheduled to appear at a Farmington court on Oct. 25.
