AUGUSTA — A New York man charged with killing a Maine couple found shot inside an SUV on Christmas is being held without bail.

Twenty-nine-year-old David Marble Jr., of Rochester, appeared before a Superior Court justice in Augusta Judicial Center on Wednesday. He was formally charged with two counts of murder. He didn’t enter a plea.

Marble was arrested Tuesday in the deaths of 35-year-old Eric Williams and 26-year-old Bonnie Royer, of Augusta. Police say the couple was shot in Manchester.

One of the victims called 911 from an isolated dirt road about a mile from their home on the day they were shot. Responding officers found both of them dead.

Police say the killings are drug-related. Marble had been living in an Augusta apartment.

Attorney information for Marble wasn’t immediately available.
