DIXFIELD — A special town meeting to discuss whether to appropriate $50,000 to fund a withdrawal effort from Regional School Unit 10 is set for 6 p.m. Thursday, April 30, in the community room at Dirigo High School.

“On April 30, people will have the chance to speak on the issue during a public hearing,” Puiia said. “At the end of the hearing, instead of adjourning, we’ll take a recess and reconvene Tuesday, June 9, where people will be able to vote on the question. People can still vote via absentee ballot in between.”

Natalie Sneller of Canton said the former School Administrative District 21 towns of Dixfield, Canton, Peru and Carthage circulated petitions asking for a vote to form a four-member committee to work on withdrawal negotiations and to appropriate money to fund the cost of negotiations, research and analysis of withdrawal agreements.

All towns except Carthage have agreed to place articles on their town meeting warrants.

The Peru and Canton petitions asked for $10,000 each, while the Carthage petition asked for $8,000.

Other towns in RSU 10 are Buckfield, Hartford, Sumner, Mexico, Rumford, Byron, Roxbury and Hanover.
