AUBURN — The Androscoggin Historical Society will host a genealogy workshop on Saturday, Feb. 7, starting at 2 p.m., at the Auburn Public Library, 49 Spring St.

Two experienced genealogists will be presenting. Nancy Lecompte will talk about the use of DNA testing to answer genealogical questions and Fr. Robert Parent will discuss Franco-American genealogy.

Lecompte was born and raised in Auburn with deep ancestral roots in Androscoggin County. She currently serves as the research director of Ne-Do-Ba, a local nonprofit organization specializing in Native American history and genealogy. Lecompte is an experienced genealogist and has spent the past 18 months studying genetics and how to apply genetic test results to genealogy research. She recently presented on the subject of genetic genealogy for the Maine Genealogical Society’s 2014 Fall Conference.

Father Robert Parent was born in Lewiston and currently resides in Auburn. Parent has been doing genealogical research since he was a young boy. He graduated from the University of Delaware, earning his degree in art history and did his theological studies in Boston. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1986 for the Melkite Greek-Catholic Church in the U.S.. He is a member of the Association of the Parent Families of America, the Societe de Genealogie de Quebec and serves on the board of directors and is past president of the Maine Franco-American Genealogical Society, Turner Street, Auburn.
