ROXBURY — Planning Board members Cathy Mattson and Ron Dube were told Thursday night that the board has authority to send Code Enforcement Officer Bob Folsom to check properties.

Planning Board member Mike Mills was absent because of illness, Mattson said.

Mattson and Dube sought clarification of the board’s authority from Board of Selectmen Chairman John Sutton. Dube said the board has conference calls with Folsom when it has to check on specifics, but didn’t know if it could send him to sites as selectmen do.

Dube said he drove around town Thursday checking on properties and found three whose owners might not have applied for permits before doing construction. One had a new deck.

He asked Sutton if the Planning Board could send Folsom to check on the properties and Sutton said it’s within the board’s authority.

Sutton said Folsom, who does code enforcement work for other towns, has been under utilized by selectmen and the Planning Board this year.

“He’s so far under what we budgeted him for,” Sutton said.

Mattson said that could change once the Planning Board gets underway on determining which properties have holding tanks and which have septic systems.

With winter arriving, the Planning Board will meet once a month in December, January, February and possibly March, instead of twice a month.

The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, in the Town Office. A workshop between selectmen and the Planning Board is set for 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9.
