WALES – Lakeside Chapter No. 60, Order of the Eastern Star held its Installation of Officers on April 11 at the Grange-Masonic Hall, 322 Centre Road.
The officers of 2013-2014 entered and the Worthy Matron declared the Chapter open for the purpose of installing the officers for the 115th year. The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America was led by the Worthy Patron and it was followed by one verse of the National Anthem.
The out-going officers were thanked for their good work throughout the year.
The Distinguished Guests presented, escorted to the East and given honors due their stations included:
John L. Cousins, General Grand Chapter Committee Member of Public Relations, and a Past Grand Patron of Maine.
Stephanie J. Dupal, General Grand Chapter Committee Member on Youth and a Past Grand Matron of Maine.
Rebecca D. Johnson, Associate Grand Matron.
Larry W. Smith, Associate Grand Patron.
Violet F. H. Gerber, District Deputy Grand Matron of District 4.
The Worthy Patron asked the Grand Representatives to stand and introduce themselves. Brother Brett Jervis, Past Patron, Grand Representative of Mississippi did so.
The Worthy Matron invited Sister Stephanie Dupal, Installing Grand Matron, to the East and presented her with the gavel. Sister Stephanie introduced the rest of the installing suite: Brother John L. Cousins, Installing Grand Patron; Sister Nancy Randall Clark, Installing Chaplain; Sister Josephine V. Dupal, Installing Marshal; Sister Debra Greim, Installing Organist; and Sister Rebecca D.Johnson, Star Point Ceremony.

The installing marshal led the officers of 2014-15 into the chapter room and to the altar where they took their oaths of office. The following officers were then installed: Worthy Matron, Jocelyne Jervis, P.M.; Worthy Patron, Stanton Leighton, P.P.; Associate Matron, Sonia Woodrum, P. M.; Associate Patron, Rodney Woodrum, P.M.; Secretary, Violet Gerber, P.M.; treasurer, Cynthia Holbrook, P.M.; Conductress, Elizabeth Leighton, P.M.; Associate Conductress, Rachel Nadeau.
After the chaplain, Brett Jervis, P.P., received his badge of office, the installing organist played “The Old Rugged Cross.” Then the remaining officers were installed: marshal, “Tony” Battistta S. Passalaqua; organist, James Witherell; Adah, Ruth Wheeler, P.M.; Esther, Judith Bourget, P.M.; Martha, Arlene Winslow, P.M.; Electa, Clarinda Andrews, P.M.; and sentinel, Yvonne Winslow, P.M.
The installing officer directed the Installing Marshal to proclaim the officers regularly installed in the name of the Grand Chapter with the exception of “Warder.” Brother Jordan Witherell was ill and will be installed at a later date.
Gifts were exchanged, the guest officers were thanked and pleasing remarks were given and after a prayer and the Worthy Matron declaring the chapter closed, we retired to the refreshments.
The next meeting is May 13 when the chapter will honor Mother’s Day and have a presentation by the Demolay. Ladies will be in colored gowns, gentlemen in dark suits or tuxes.
