MONMOUTH — Investigators were searching for a “person of interest” Wednesday night after a mobile home burned at West Village Trailer Park early Wednesday morning.

Fire officials said homeowner Charles Reed escaped unharmed, but by the time the flames were snuffed out, his home was destroyed.

Investigators said the fire was the result of a “human element.”

The home, at 15 Blue Rock Road near the intersection of Route 202, was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived just after 1 a.m., officials said.

Fire crews from several towns turned their attention to saving two homes on either side of the burning building. By the time the fire was out, neither of the nearby homes was damaged.

Reed was being assisted later Wednesday by the local chapter of the American Red Cross.

Monmouth fire investigators were joined by officials from the State Fire Marshal’s Office as they sought the cause of the blaze.

According to Monmouth fire Chief Dan Roy, the fire originated on the front enclosed porch.
