MONMOUTH — The Monmouth Lions Club held its 2014 Speak-Out event on March 3 at the United Church of Monmouth Packard Activity Center.

The winners were Angus Koller who placed first and received $60 for his speech on “End of NASA,” Emily Barnett who placed second and received $50 for her speech on “Dream Interpretations” and Rebekah Bryant who place third and received $40 for her speech on “Tribute to Coaches.”

They are all students at Monmouth Academy.

Judges were Lions Archie Wing, Dawn McAndrews and Amanda Angell.

At the end of each speech, the contestants were asked questions by Lion Nancy Schkrioba and Lion Buffy Dumont, who was the alumni student 1993 Speak-Out winner.

Speeches were evaluated in three categories: delivery of speech, material and response to the questions.

Monmouth Academy coaches Scott and Cathy Foyt each were presented a certificate of appreciation by Lion president Tim McDonald. It read, “May it be known that this certificate has been presented to Monmouth Academy coach Scott Foyt, coach Cathy Foyt in appreciation of the services and cooperation extended to Monmouth Lions Club Speak-Out Program on this third day of March, 2014.

Guy Piper, Monmouth Lions Club chairman, commended the students on a job well done and well-deserved certificate of appreciation for their hard work and dedication.
