DEAR SUN SPOTS: You are so much better at dealing with computers than I am, so I have a question. Since Windows 7 updated automatically about three weeks ago, I have problems with my zoom level.

I like to keep it at 125 percent, as it is easier for me to see. Now it keeps changing from 125 percent back to 100 percent when I go from one website to another and sometimes when I am in the middle of a procedure. It’s very annoying. So how can I keep it at 125 percent?

I have never had this problem before. I feel the computer wants to have its own way rather than what I want it to do! Thanks for whatever help you can furnish me. — No Name via email

ANSWER: Sun Spots cannot be sure that this is your problem, but it’s what came to mind.

While you are in an open Internet Explorer window, go to the Tools window (at the top of the page, right under the website address). Click on the drop-down window and select Internet Options (the last one).

Then choose Advanced. Under the subhead Accessibility, you will see little boxes with options next to them, including:

* Reset text size to medium for new windows and tabs.

* Reset zoom level for new windows and tabs.

If those are checked, every time you open a new window, the browser will go back to the default, instead of your preferred magnification. You will want to uncheck them (leave the box empty).

If this doesn’t work, please let Sun Spots know, and she will research further.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Is there anyone in Maine who wants used greeting cards? The lady I used to give them to no longer takes them. I know St. Jude’s accepts them, but I was looking for someone in Maine or a charity in Maine.

Some of the rules are:

* All types of greeting cards, including Christmas are used. The website says they currently have a need for birthday and thank-you cards.

* Only the card front can be used (please check to be sure the back side is clear of any writing, etc.)

* They cannot accept Hallmark, Disney or American Greeting cards.

* The 5- by 7-inch size or smaller is preferred.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have a 2007 Dell Photo All-in-One printer model 966 that I’d like to donate to a nonprofit that could use it. It worked with Windows 8 on my new computer, but the hard drive failed and it doesn’t work with the new hard drive.

I used it to print a monthly newsletter and cards. It’s barely used and in great condition. I have the disk for it, six black ink cartridges, two color and one photo cartridge.
