CANTON — Selectmen on Thursday night approved of spending up to $16,500 for a brush truck for the Fire Department.

The sum of $15,000 will be taken from the Fire Reserve account, which has $30,012, and $1,500 will come from selling the old brush truck to M/T Pockets towing service of Dixfield. Fire Chief Shane Gallant said he has been promised that amount for the old truck.

Town Administrator Scott Kilbreth said David Bowman, who bought the old municipal building, is the only person who has contacted the town to say he wanted some street lights left on.

Kilbreth said he will tie ribbons around those lights that are to be turned off by Central Maine Power.

The town’s recycling contract with Archie’s Inc. of Mexico runs out in May and Selectman Robert Walker is trying to get information on the new contract price.

The board approved membership to the Maine Town & City Clerks Association for Kilbreth and Deputy Clerk Kathy Walker.

Kilbreth said he received a request from the Portland Sea Dogs baseball team for names of local heroes. He submitted those of Chief Gallant, firefighter Jason Vaughn, who is also the Emergency Management Agency director, and Public Works Director Donald Cummings. They will be honored at the Sea Dogs game at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 12.

Walker said any articles for the annual town meeting warrant that people want to vote on by secret ballot must be returned to the Town Office by April 24. The annual town meeting is Thursday, June 12.
