Team building at Lisbon High

LISBON FALLS — Promoting Positive Relationships and Words Project at Lisbon High School began Wednesday, March 5. Students are participating in team building activities during their advocacies on Wednesday and Thursday in conjunction with the National Spread the Word to End the R Word Campaign. Each morning includes announcements and a designated phrase/word activity for students and staff to use and reflect on throughout the day.

Wednesday was Positive and Empowering Words Day, Thursday is Kindness and Caring Day and Friday is Be a Good Friend Day.

Thanks to the Project UNIFY Special Olympics state office, all students and staff will be given a T-shirt to wear on Friday, March 7, to join together to promote Positive Relationships and Words in the school.

Homeschoolers present ‘Shrew’

MONMOUTH — Southern Maine Association of Shakespearean Homeschoolers will present “The Taming of The Shrew” at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 6, and Friday, March 7, and at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at Cumston Hall.

The play is directed by Pastor Sam Richards and produced by Amanda Chick.

United Commercial Travelers meeting

AUBURN — Twin City Council 160 of the United Commercial Travelers of America will hold a dinner meeting at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at the Village Inn Restaurant.

Pancake breakfast March 9 at St. Philips

AUBURN — A pancake breakfast will take place from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Sunday, March 9, at St. Philips Church, Route 4, across from Lake Auburn.

The menu includes sausage patties, fruit cup, orange juice, milk, coffee and tea.

Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for ages 6-12 and free for 5 and under.

The breakfast is hosted by the Philipian Seniors.

Proceeds will be used to repair the cross on the tower.

Lakeside OES to meet March 11

WALES — After a two month recess, Lakeside Chapter No. 60, Order of the Eastern Star, Sabattus, meeting in Wales, invites its members to gather at the Masonic Hall, 622 Centre Road, at 6 p.m. for a potluck supper on Tuesday, March 11.

After supper members will ascend to the Meeting Hall to hear the reports of the year past and elect officers for the coming year. The Worthy Matron will announce her Appointive Officers, request the date of the Installation and members will choose the Installation rehearsal date.

Civil War lecture on Vicksburg

BRUNSWICK — Joshua L. Chamberlain Civil War Round Table Lecture will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at Curtis Memorial Library, Morrell Room, 23 Pleasant St.

Speaker will be Matt Atkinson on “1863: The Vicksburg Campaign.” Lectures are free and open to the public.

Legacy Writers Group meets March 14

LEWISTON — The Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter will present its free Lewiston Legacy Writers Group on Friday, March 14, from 10 a.m. to noon, at SeniorsPlus, 8 Falcon Road.

The Lewiston Legacy Writers Group helps those with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias to write their life story for loved ones or just themselves. Participants don’t have to be writers to benefit from this completely confidential and fun program.

This special program is open to individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias and their care partners.

Bean supper March 15 at Amvets

NEW GLOUCESTER — A bean supper will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at Amvets Post 6.

Menu will include two kinds of beans, homemade biscuits, cole slaw, brown bread, hot dogs, American chop suey and homemade pies.

Cost is $7 for adults, $3 under 12, and under 6 free.

The supper is held the third Saturday of each month.

Sabattus Legion plans Ladies Night

SABATTUS — The American Legion Post 135 will hold a Ladies Night from 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday, March 15.

St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon on March 16

MECHANIC FALLS — A St. Patrick’s Day luncheon will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 16, at Mechanic Falls Ladies Auxiliary Unit 150, 41 Elm St.

The meal will be a traditional boiled dinner and desserts. Cost is $6 for seniors, $7 for adults and $3 for children under 10.

Alzheimer’s Assoc. driving workshop

LEWISTON — The Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter will present the free workshop “Driving: When is it time to give up the keys?” from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, March 17, at SeniorsPlus, 8 Falcon Road.

The program is for families and individuals who are dealing with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. Ideally, families should talk openly about driving soon after a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s. Making a decision about when it is time to stop driving can be difficult, but dealing with the issue early on can help ease the transition. This program will offer strategies for having the conversation about driving.

SAD 52 pre-K, K information

TURNER — Information meetings for pre-K and kindergarten registration for students not currently enrolled in SAD 52 pre-K will be held at the following locations.

Parents can attend in any town. Meetings will be at 6 p.m. on March 25 at Leeds Central School, April 1 at Greene Central School and April 2 at Turner Primary School.
