RUMFORD — In an effort to raise money for its after-school programs, the Western Foothills Kids Association will sponsor a performance by singer and songwriter Rick Charette at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at Mountain Valley High School.
Advance tickets are $5 for children ages 23 months to 18 years, and $6 for adults; At the door they are $7 for children and $8 for adults.
Barbara Radmore, the after-school program director, said it’s the first time she’s approached Charette about a concert “in quite a while.”
“Back in the day, there used to be a children’s museum on Franklin Street in Rumford, and I asked him to perform there,” Radmore said. “Other than that, it’s been a little bit since I’ve approached him about a concert, but he’s a sweetheart. He enjoys performing.”
All money raised will go toward the after-school programs, she said.
“We have all kinds of different programs to run,” Radmore said, such as art clubs, karate, rollerblading, cooperative games, cooking and the robotics club.
Radmore added that the five-year federal education grant the association received in 2009 runs out in June, and as far as she knows, nobody has submitted an application or a proposal for another grant to keep the programs running.
“We may not even be open this time next year,” she said.
Tickets will be available at Rumford Elementary School, Bartash’s on Congress Street and by calling 357-6987.
