SUMNER — The Board of Selectmen voted Tuesday to sell an old Trojan grader for $4,250 after purchasing a newer one in September.

Administrative Assistant Cindy Norton said Wednesday that the board decided to sell the 1985 grader to Tim Ladd, owner of Route 4 Auto in Strong.

In September 2012, the town purchased a 1990 John Deere grader for $12,500 at a state surplus auction in Augusta.

In other business, selectmen finalized a new snowplowing contract with Lucas Enterprises. Norton said the town was forced to search for a new contractor after Clifford Lowe died in April. He had plowed the roads for decades, she said.

“Lucas Enterprises had already been approved, but the board finalized the contract during Tuesday night’s meeting,” Norton explained.

Lucas Enterprises consists of brothers Alfred Lucas of Buckfield, owner of AF Lucas Logging, and Weldon Lucas of Wayne, owner of WR Lucas Transportation. Norton said the brothers work under the name Lucas Enterprises.

Norton said the board also discussed damage to the roads from recent rain.

“A lot of the roads have suffered damage because of the rain we’ve been getting,” Norton said. “The road commissioner has been going around and putting the culverts back into place.”
