CARRABASSETT VALLEY (AP) — Volunteers are being sought to help create a new mountain biking trail in western Maine.

The Carrabassett Region New England Mountain Biking Association is teaming up with Maine Huts and Trails — an organization that’s developing a backcountry network of huts along 180 miles of trails in western Maine — to blaze a new single-track trail connecting Carrabassett Valley’s Narrow Gauge rail trail and the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center to Maine Huts and Trails’ Stratton Brook hut.

The event, billed as TrailFest, is being held June 8 and 9. Volunteers who take part in the trail work will receive free lodging and meals at the Stratton Book hut.
