1948 – 2013
BOSTON, MASS. — Lorraine Dunn Litchfield, 64, of Sumner, passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 18, with her family by her side, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, after a long period of ill health.
She was born on March 29, 1948, in Livermore Falls, the daughter of Cora DeCoster and Bernard “Bunny” Dunn. She was educated in Sumner and Buckfield, graduating from Buckfield High School in 1966. Two weeks later she married her high school sweetheart, Walter “Wally” Litchfield Jr. and they moved to Fort Kent, while Wally finished college at University of Maine and Lorraine worked in the college cafeteria.
They moved back to Sumner to raise a family while Wally taught in West Paris. Lorraine worked various jobs throughout her life, including packing apples at Maine Apple Growers and babysitting out of her home for a number of area children who have remained special to her over the years. Eventually she worked full-time for Greg and Donna Trundy at the Renaissance House in Rumford.
Lorraine was an active member of the Sumner Fire Department Auxiliary and taught Sunday school at East Sumner Congregational Church. She loved to play Bingo and could be seen enjoying herself with many of her “Bingo” friends. She also loved to play cards and visit the casinos. She enjoyed scrapbooking and crafts and was very proud of her Christmas miniature village, but her greatest enjoyment was the family gatherings that took place throughout the year (especially on Sundays at her mom’s home in Buckfield.) That is when she was truly happiest.
She is survived by her husband, Walter H. Litchfield Jr.; two sons, Timothy and his wife, Carissa, of Buckfield and Michael and his partner, Steve, of Sumner; a daughter, Rebecca of Mechanic Falls; her precious grandchildren, Kali and Nolan; sisters, Lynda Bell and her husband, Gene, Joanne Douglass and her husband, Leslie and Cathy Chandler and her husband, Jeff; her brother, Porky Dunn and his wife, Cindy; sisters-in-law, Susan, Deborah and Gloria Litchfield and Linda Richardson and husband, Junie; brother-in-law, Allan Litchfield; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents; sister, Sally Kilgore and husband, Paul; and brothers-in-law, Larry, Wayne and Kevin Litchfield.
