NORWAY — In celebration of its 50-year support of the arts, Western Maine Art Group is showing works by western Maine artists at Lajos Matolcsy Arts Center through Aug. 31.
On exhibit are new works by Gail Rein, Nikki Millonzi, Barbara Traficonte, Pam Morra, Shirley Libby Davis, Sheridan Mclaughlin,Ron Hamilton, Francoise Fetchco, Kathy Kennedy, Leslie Baumgartell, Beth Francis and others.
There is also a display of works by the art group’s founding members and their friends, Lajos Matolcsy, Lee Bean, Ellie Viles, Ann Buyer, Orell Linell and others.
Western Maine Art Group started out as an artist group housed in the Upper Primary School House, the first one-room schoolhouse built in Norway in 1805. In 1962, the schoolhouse became an asset of the Western Maine Art Group as its center of operation. Since then, the WMAG has provided support and arts education for young and old alike.
Lajos Matolcsy Arts Center is at 480 Main St. The gallery is open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. For more information, call 743-7813 or email westernmaineartgroup@gmail.com.
