LIVERMORE — Samples from the water at the Highway Garage well have been sent to Augusta to be tested.

Town administrative assistant Kurt Schaub said he and Highway Department foreman Roger Ferland have been trying to chase down a source of musty odor from the water supply at the garage on Church Street.

“We are, naturally, concerned that the water is safe for use, especially as it is the source for their eye-wash station,” Schaub said. “Water samples were sent to a state lab (Dec. 20) to be analyzed.”

The results are expected soon.

Goodwin Well & Water Inc. drilled the well in the mid-1990s, he said.

One reason for concern is that in the 1990s there was an underground diesel tank there that leaked, Schaub said. It was cleaned up under the guidance of the Maine Department of Environmental Protection.

“We want know for certain what is going on,” Schaub said.

Schaub said, on another matter, that bids for financing the new highway truck have been solicited and are due for opening at the Board of Selectpersons’ meeting Tuesday, Jan. 3. The total amount to be financed is $123,904.86.

The truck is at H.P. Fairfield in Skowhegan being outfitted with a dump body, snowplow and other equipment. It’s due to be completed about the end of January.

The total cost of the 2012 Volvo truck and equipment was $173,904.86, not factoring in the $50,000 trade-in value for the Sterling truck, he said.
