FARMINGTON — Maine Mountain Chamber Music will perform compositions by Brahms, Beethoven and Blochin on Saturday, Sept. 17, at the University of Maine at Farmington.
Performing with MMCM co-directors, pianist Yuri Funahashi and violist Laurie Kennedy, will be violinist Joseph Swensen, hornist Victoria Eisen and cellist Marc Johnson.
Eisen held long-term principal french horn positions with the Chamber Orchestra of New York and Solisti New York, and has made frequent appearances with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, New York City Ballet, Metropolitan Opera and New York City Opera. She has also been in numerous Broadway musical productions.
Swensen has served as principal conductor of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the Malmo Opera in Sweden, and has been a regular guest conductor for numerous other orchestras. Prior to conducting, he enjoyed a successful career as a violin soloist.
Johnson had a distinguished career as a member of the Vermeer String Quartet, which for 35 years toured extensively in Europe and North America. He plays a cello made by Francesco Stradivarius circa1730.
The concert program features Beethoven’s piano quartet, originally written as a quintet for piano and four wind instruments; Bloch’s Suite hebraique for viola and piano, which celebrates his Jewish heritage; and Brahms’ Horn Trio.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Nordica Auditorium. Tickets, sold at the door, are $12 for adults, free for children 16 and younger. For more information, call 645-2157.
