Yard sale

MECHANIC FALLS — A yard sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 20, 21 and 22, at 172 Elm St. Proceeds will benefit Voiture 354, 40 and 8 Nurses Training Scholarship.

Pork dinner

HEBRON — The Hebron Historical Society will be holding a roast pork dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 22, at the West Minot Grange Hall. $8 complete with beverage and dessert. Proceeds to go toward the society’s new home.

Bates Field Day

LEWISTON — The Bates College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will host its 4th annual Bates Field Day from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 22, at Bates College. It will take place rain or shine.

The event, which looks to provide local youth an opportunity to interact with Bates student-athletes as well as generally foster greater ties between Bates and the community, will consist of various sports activities led by Bates student-athletes, such as soccer, kickball, relay races and more.

Field Day is open to 1st through 5th grade students. Registration will be open on the day of the event from noon to 12:45 p.m. in Merrill Gym at Bates. 

Post 31 officers

AUBURN — American Legion Post 31 invites all members to attend the installation of new officers on Tuesday, May 24. The installation will commence at 6:30 p.m., followed by a free potluck supper.

Preserving food

FALMOUTH — The University of Maine Cooperative Extension is offering three-hour “Preserving the Harvest” workshops during the growing season at the UMaine Regional Learning Center. Workshops will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24, and Tuesday, June 28; from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, and Tuesday, July 12;  from 1 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 21; from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 16, and Tuesday, Aug. 23.

Participants will receive a food preservation packet and will learn recommended methods for preserving foods, the latest and safest recipes, about equipment to ensure safety and how to check for properly sealed jars. Participants may bring their own pressure canner dial gauge to class for a free accuracy test. Bring a potholder to the workshop.
