Y open house

AUBURN — The Auburn-Lewiston YMCA is holding an open house this week, through May 22. A free two-week trial membership (family or individual) is being offered. Silver Tea

AUGUSTA — People supporting addiction recovery across the state will gather in Augusta from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, May 19, to celebrate women’s recovery at the Women’s Addiction Services Council’s annual Silver Tea at the Hall of Flags and the Blaine House.

Each year, the Silver Tea offers women in recovery, their families and friends, and service providers, an opportunity to hold their recovery up as a great accomplishment, enjoy the camaraderie of other women in recovery, and celebrate the time and work they have invested in changing their lives, and becoming active participants in their communities.

One of the women celebrated at the tea will receive the Women in Recovery Leadership Award. The name of this year’s recipient will be announced at the tea.

Legion meeting

LEWISTON — American Legion Post 22 will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at the Multi-Purpose Center, 145 Birch St., for its installation and awarding of scholarships.

All legion officers and Unit 22 Auxiliary officers should be appropriately dressed to be installed. All others should be dressed accordingly with their caps.

There will be a 50/50 drawing and a raffle for prizes. All attending should have paid-up membership cards.

LEWISTON — A car seat inspection station will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at United Ambulance Service, 338 East Ave. No registration is required. Eastern Star

LISBON FALLS — Pioneer Chapter No. 11 Lisbon Falls, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at the Ancient York Masonic Hall on Route 196. The group will be observing landmarks and obligation.

Refreshments will follow the meeting. All members of the order are invited.

Dog racing

POLAND — Heather Brannen of Poland is the silver winner in the International Sled Dog Racing Association adult skijoring 2-dog speed class of international competitions. Heather is a member of the Down East Sled Dog Club and is sponsored by Nooksack Racing Supply and Seadog Brew Pub.

Labbe scholarship

BRUNSWICK — Applications are now available for the Ray Labbe Brunswick Area annual scholarships. This year six, each in the amount of $1000, will be awarded to graduating high school seniors who seek to further their education in any field at a two- or four-year college or university. Eligible students are those who are graduating from Brunswick, Topsham, Bath, Maine Region 10 Technical High School and Bath Regional Voc School.

This scholarship is in memory of Brunswick resident Ray Labbe who was Past President of the Brunswick Kiwanis Club and Past President of AGC of Maine. He was also a principal owner of Ray Labbe and Sons, Brunswick.

Applications must be postmarked no later than June 1 and mailed to Patty Labbe, 8 Edgefield Lane, Brunswick, ME 04011. Applications are available at the guidance offices located at each high school.

Duplicate bridge

LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on May 10 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Winners in Flight A were: 1st, David Lock and Patricia Garcia; 2nd, Anna Vitiello and Lucille Theriault; 3rd, Janet Arey and Linda Leotsakos; 4th, Mike Quinn and Luke Merry. Flight B & C winners were: 1st, Susan Kaluynski and Donna Bartlett; 2nd, Lucille Bilodeau and Alberta Turner. A game is played at 9 a.m. each Tuesday.

The club also met on May 11 at Schooner Estates in Auburn.. Winners were: 1st, Kathleen Burden and Mary Ann Trafton; 2nd, Claire Lyons and Anna Vitiello; 3rd, Patricia Garcia and David Lock. Anothr game will be played at 6:30P p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at Schooner Estates.

Plant sale

BOWDOINHAM — The 38th annual Bowdoinham Public Library plant sale will be held from 9 a.m. 4 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at the town hall located on School Street. Included in the sale are locally grown perennials, trees, shrubs, annuals and vegetable seedlings. The sale is recognized by the Maine State Legislature as the longest running plant sale in the state of Maine.

HEBRON — A yard sale to benefit the Hebron Historical Society will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 21, across from the post office.

CCM potluck

LEWISTON — The Lewiston/Auburn chapter of Connected Catholics of Maine will host a spring social potluck at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at the Catholic Center, 16 Ste. Yard, craft sale

NEW GLOUCESTER — Sabbathday Lake Grange will hold an indoor yard sale and craft fair from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 21. There will be a wide variety of crafts, cutlery, attic treasures, cooked foods and treats, plants and more. There will also be a light lunch available consisting of baked beans, hot dogs, chili and sandwiches. Chicken pies will also be available for $8 or $7.50 for two or more.
