Time change

LEWISTON —The time of the “Just Us” concert, scheduled for Friday, May 13, in the Multi-Purpose Center gym, is 7 p.m., not 7:30 as previously reported.

Proceeds from the concert will benefit Lewiston Senior Citizens. Tickets can be purchased in advanced for $5 each at the LSC office in the Multi-Purpose Center. Tickets will also be available at the door for $6 each. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for general admission seating. Light refreshments will be sold. Country Sunday

LITCHFIELD — Country Sunday will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at Litchfield Sportsman Club, 2782 Hallowell Rd.

Country performers will include The Jones Dance Band, Heather Rose Dudley, Potpourri, Mary & Maurice Belanger, Brian Plato, Gary Leet and Bill Giasson.

‘Worry bug’

LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center is offering a free workshop for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers titled “Let Go of the Worry Bug.” The workshop will take place from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, at CMMC, 12 High St., conference room H.

Presenter Marcy Covey will address the issue of chronic worrying and discuss ways to control the “worry bug” and keep it contained. The workshop is offered as part of Covey’s ongoing “Growing Through Cancer: Your Personal Toolkit” series.

AUBURN — Christina Solak-Goodwin will read from and sign copies of her newly released book, “Battling Bipolar Disorder, a Memoir,” from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at the Auburn Public Library.

Christina’s book is a first person account of her battle with bipolar disorder that includes more than 12 psychiatric hospitalizations, electric shock treatments and multiple suicide attempts.

For the past 17 years, Christina has been able to earn two Bachelor degrees and a Master’s degree. She is a licensed clinical professional counselor, registered nurse, adjunct professor in the social behavioral department at Lewiston-Auburn College and now a published author.

She currently works at Mid Coast Hospital’s partial hospital program as a psychiatric nurse.

St. Dom’s pre-K

AUBURN — Saint Dominic Academy’s pre-kindergarten has announced that registration for the 2011-12 school year is currently underway. The program offers 4- and 5-year-olds full-day sessions, as well as 2-, 3- or 5-day options.

Our pre-kindergarten’s developmentally appropriate curriculum meets the social, emotional, academic and spiritual needs of our students. Pre-K’s weekly schedule includes computer, library and physical education classes.

Home history

NEW GLOUCESTER — At the May meeting of the New Gloucester Historical Society, some of the volunteer staff of the society will do presentations on using research materials to uncover the history of your home and of your family.

The society has an extensive archive that can be used by the public and this program will tell you how to use in practical ways what local societies have. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at the New Gloucester Meetinghouse, Route 231, next to the Town Hall.

The public is invited. Refreshments will be served. A business meeting for members will follow the program.

Rummage sale

AUBURN — A rummage and bake sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at American Legion Post 153, 71 South Main St.

Bean supper

AUBURN — The Andy Valley Knights of Columbus, Council 8742, will be holding a bean and American chop suey supper from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 21, in the basement of St. Louis Church, Third Street. $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Supper includes hot dogs, cole slaw, bread, dessert and a beverage.

Math checkup

AUBURN — This month at Sylvan in Auburn there is a free math checkup on Saturday, May 21. The math checkup will begin at noon and last for about 90 minutes. This is a great opportunity to find out what math skills your child needs to work on to be ready for school in the fall.

Vernal pools

TOPSHAM — Cathance River Education Alliance will present “Vernal Pools” with Amanda Shearin, a grad student under Professor Aram Calhoun at the University of Maine in Orono. Shearin will be hosting a three-hour class from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 21, at The Cathance River Education Center on the preserve on the back of the Highland’s Green. $15 for members, $20 for nonmembers. Sign up in advance as space is limited. Come prepared to be outside on the dock of CREA’s vernal pool and collect and identify specimens found there.

Shearin will return for the monthly lecture series at the Topsham Public Library from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 31. Free and open to the public.
